Toast of Brooklyn Food and Wine Festival is the continuation of the highly successful Toast of Bedford Stuyvesant, held at the Carver Bank in 2007. This event began as a celebration of the historic Bedford Stuyvesant community but has transformed into a truly spectacular event for the culturally diverse borough of Brooklyn. The original idea of this event was created by, Edmon Braithwaite of Nostrand Wines. He wanted to invite all major wine and spirits suppliers/producers into Brooklyn and participate in a unique upscale industry event previously seen only in Manhattan and other affluent areas. Our inaugural event was officially opened by former Borough President Marty Markowitz at the Carver Bank in Bed Stuy. All proceeds were donated to the establishment of the Business Improvement District and a diverse group of disadvantaged kids heading to college. We annually, identify a local social or educational not for profit to benefit from our event. In 2013, Toast of Bedford Stuyvesant graduated to Toast of Brooklyn as the supplier participation expanded, attendance increased, accompanied by growing diversity and expectations. The participation of the Nelson Mandela family and vineyards, celebrity Food Network chefs, famed artist Danny Simmons and others, have created an exciting annual buzz to this festival. In addition, the designation of Brooklyn as the cultural capital of New York, evidenced by the rapidly changing demographics, offered an opportunity to reach across many boundaries.
