The Long Island Food Coalition (LIFC) is a consortium of individuals and organizations throughout Long Island and the tri-state area who share a common desire to advance efforts in preserving our local agriculture and expand our sources of locally grown food for our communities.
LIFC aims to preserve and support local agriculture and promote sustainable farmers and food producers, while expanding access to fresh produce and healthy food to communities across Long Island.
The LIFC bridges the gap between farmers and consumers, raising awareness of critical issues in our food system and applying our effort to community outreach and public engagement.
The Coalition is responsible for organizing the 2011 and 2012 Farm Summits at SUNY Old Westbury College and Hofstra University (formerly Long Island Small Farm Initiative), respectively. These two conferences drew nearly 1,400 attendees and were very successful in bringing together a diversity of people dedicated to growing, promoting and consuming local food.
