Sustainable Seafood: Panel Discussion & Tasting
June 14 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm$50
As per Slow Food NYC, organizer of Sustainable Seafood: Panel Discussion & Tasting Event.
Join Slow Food NYC for our annual celebration of sustainable seafood, as we dive into a dynamic (and delicious!) discussion about the critical connections between environmental sustainability, human health, and the state of our oceans.
Hosted in collaboration with our partners at Natural Gourmet Institute and James Beard Foundation under the Enlightened Eaters program along with Sea to Table, the evening will kick off with a panel discussion led by local seafood experts, and followed by an interactive hour of cooking demos and seafood tastings, from New York oysters and sea vegetables to underutilized fish full of flavor and story.
• Sean Dimin, Co-Founder, Sea to Table
• Peter Malinowski, Director, Billion Oyster Project
• Will Horowitz, Founder, Ducks Eatery & Beyond the Shoreline
After our panel discussion, you’ll enjoy ocean-forward hors d’oeuvres specially prepared by the Natural Gourmet Institute and wine provided by Indie Wineries, as you meet & mingle with the local sustainable seafood experts around the room. Interactive demos and seafood dishes include oyster shucking by the Billion Oyster Project team, sea vegetable appetizers by Natural Gourmet Institute, and a special fish dish featuring the local catch by Sea to Table.
Enlightened Eaters is an educationally minded series of readings, workshops, discussions, and other programs focusing on health, nutrition, sustainability, and environmental issues.
All proceeds support Slow Food NYC’s Urban Harvest food education programs for NYC students in schools throughout the academic year, and at our tuition-free urban farm program in East New York, Brooklyn. Learn more about Slow Food NYC’s Urban Harvest program here: www.slowfoodnyc.org/urbanharvest.
