Cochon555, the traveling culinary competition and tasting event created to promote sustainable farming of heritage breed pigs, features five local chefs, five pigs from local ranches and five local winemakers returns to NYC on Sunday, January 21st. This year’s competing chefs are Bryan Hunt of Temple Court, Marc Murphy of Benchmarc Restaurants, Fabian Gallardo of La Esquina, Matt Abdoo of Pig Beach and Ginger Pierce alongside Preston Matson of Jams by Jonathan Waxman.
Each chefs will prepare an entire heritage breed pig from head to toe for the competition. Guests and professional judges will taste the chef creations and determine a winner based on presentation, utilization and overall best flavor. The winner will be crowned the “Prince of Porc” and will compete against other regional winners for top honors at Grand Cochon September 30th in Chicago.
The event also features a pop-up Butcher Shop, five sommeliers competing in the third annual Somm Smackdown, 5 barkeeps facing off in the Punch Kings bourbon-punch bowl competition, a selection of artisan cheeses, tartare bar, a Tiki bar, a pop-up pie shop, a silent Auction to benefit charity and so much more.
General admission tickets (5pm) are $130 for unlimited food and drink. VIP tickets are $200 and gets you early access at 4pm, a couple of special dishes and wines, exclusive access to the Punch Kings cocktail competition and allocated wines and more.
